Communicating with younger women has aided my overall perspective on the gender

By Fernie Ruano Jr.
I’ve been accused of rocking the cradle once or twice, most notably by 40-something girlfriends and former schoolmates, all torn between envy and disdain because they can’t stomach a 43-year-old man spilling the creamer on a 28-year-old Cuban woman three times a week while she screams, “Hay papi!”, they’re going on their third marriage, stalk their best friend’s son on Facebook or open the door at 6 p.m. every day to a crying 7-year-old with Nutella and spaghetti sauce all over his LeBron James’ t-shirt. And a barking dog. I could care less.
Yes, I take much pride in seeing them out and about with their kids, whether they’re married or not; whether the doctor she’s been married to since 1991 is rocking his secretary or not; whether the 25-year-old guy she’s been “seeing” for three weeks can only do her –proud - on Saturday nights at 2 a.m., or not. But a soft mattress aside, I have always taken pride in being able to communicate with younger women, on the beach, over a cup of coffee and at the mall. Beyond a corny pick-up line or invitation to the sack, it has not only allowed me a broader perspective on the gender, but aided one of my lifetime mottos: Age is just a number.
That’s why I smiled this morning when I read Que Pasa U.S.A.-alumni, Miami-bred actor Steven Bauer, 57, is dating 18-year-old Lyda Loudon according to US Weekly. The pair recently stepped out together for a “Magic In The Moonlight” premiere at the Linwood Dunn Theatre in Los Angeles.
According to a quick hit-and-run on her Twitter account, Loudon is a “journalist, host of Sarcasm Overdose, CEO, fulltime wild child and expresso addict”, among other things. “(It) melted my nonexistent heart,” the apparently very educated socialite managed to say about the film. “It’s good for the whole family (to go see).”Alright, I’m in no way promoting that all men should go looking for a Miley Cyrus, iPhone-loving ornament, or searching for love in a high school parking lot for that matter. And in this case there’s enough prove – Do you need more than Twitter these days? – that Loudon, or Bauer, don’t spend much time during the day sober.
But there’s a lesson here: Loudon, who appears to be speeding towards rehab, can learn from Bauer, who has had his share of personal setbacks in recent years, including with alcohol. And even though getting these two to communicate whenever they’re not sitting at the bar or rolling around in the backseat might be a difficult task, there’s nothing that says you can’t learn from one another, no matter the age gap.
I don’t sleep with my 29-year-old friend every day. But I do speak to her on a daily basis, read with her occasionally and cook in her kitchen , all without ever removing her clothes. Just learning...

Waiting on a woman is part of the game, true test of your patience

Have you ever been into a woman so much you just want to lock the door behind you and explore every wall in your apartment, while carrying her in full weight?
Well, don’t ransack your nightstand drawers looking for protection just yet stud-muffin...
She’s going to make you wait, and wait some more, this after sitting at home pretending to be very busy and ignoring your phone calls, while probably laughing too as she cleans her dog’s shit off her neighbor’s driveway before settling into her couch, naked, to watch ‘24.
Thinking about the last orgasm she had, in 2009, might not be an option on Monday nights from 9-10 p.m. but…
When she’s done drinking wine and her friends, all sitting around a table playing her up and telling her how great she is, have concluded - all in tandem - that the guy she’s put off for days just might add a little spice to her life, other than getting home to mail and late-night barking, only then will she call you at 7:00 a.m. because well, she wants to know you aren’t rocking someone else.
So, if you can control the excitement in your voice, and Old Navy boxer shorts, as you skip, jump and try not to spill boiling water all over yourself (the hell with the coffee), while balancing a cellphone on your right shoulder and turning off – or attempting to – a computer, you just might make it through a 15-minute conversation, which might net “lunch date” plans.
And more waiting, even though you emailed her 3 months ago, have done enough homework on her to fill two notebooks and can barely keep your pants on whenever you think about her.
And you’re going to be waiting some more, if you agree to meet her out for lunch, because she’s going to be an hour and a half late after calling you that same morning to tell you she couldn’t wait to see you, after her pedicure appointment, of course, and previously cancelling (a requirement among all women that know you want them).
Still, want to go out with the former high school mate you’re hard after, or would you rather move on to the bartender you met Saturday at 2 a.m.?
If your answer is yes, then you will probably be pacing outside of a restaurant for about an hour before “your woman” shows up, and hurriedly, I might add. (Note: Do different and ask her what her favorite type of food is, and take her to eat something else. This is a good barometer on how she handles the unexpected, at least for starters.
She’s going to measure her time up against you and not give a shit about it, and probably at the urging of her best friend who will likely be texting her for updates and perhaps some friends scattered about the restaurant you’re in, so don’t take it personally when she turns down your suggestion to keep it moving with a little coffee and cake, among other things, with, “That was my boyfriend, I really have to go.”
Yeah, right. Don’t believe it for a second kid. Translation: I want you, but I don’t want to come across desperate, even though that backwards hug you just gave me on the sidewalk really felt good and gave me a chance to feel you and send my mind, among other things, racing.
So, just keep plugging away at it, while displaying plenty of patience and confidence, and you will be ransacking through that nightstand drawer and keeping your neighbors up all night, sooner rather than later.

Iglesias, Santos score big in carnival-themed Premios Juventud

Spanish-language network Univision set out to give its viewers and a predominantly young, glow stick-waving live audience quite a carnival – complete with a roller coaster, Ferris wheel and water slide – at the 11th annual Premios Juventud awards Thursday night at the University of Miami BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, FL.
Latin pop star Enrique Iglesias and Dominican bachatero Romeo Santos went home with the most prizes at five apiece and scored big with a crowd that was encouraged to interact on social media at every turn.
Santos won for ‘Voice of the Moment’, ‘My Favorite Video ’ (Propuesta Indecente), ‘Catchiest Tune’ (Propuesta Indecente), ‘My Tropical Artist’ and ‘Album You Play From Beginning to End’ (Formula Vol. 2).
Up for six awards for two different songs, including smash hit “Bailando” with Gente de Zona, Iglesias tied Santos with five trophies. Iglesias won for My (Favorite) Pop/Rock Artist, in addition to being awarded the Supernova award for his international success.
Iglesias returned the love with one of the most electrifying performances of the evening, teaming up with ‘Zona to perform a high-energy and interactive version of “Bailando”, which had the crowd bouncing up and down in between trying to touch the singer.
Santos, who recently performed two, sold out shows in Yankee Stadium in New York, also brought most of the crowd to its feet with a suave and tender performance of “Propuesta Indecente”. Santos even took a selfie with a female fan’s cell phone.
In a move to showcase one of Latin music’s biggest stars and expose him to the targeted demographic, New York-born, bachata pop tart Prince Royce also used social media to engage fans. Viewers were encouraged to use hashtags on Twitter, in an effort to win an item autographed by the singer.
Cuban—American star Armando Christian Perez, better known as Pitbull worldwide, was awarded the ‘Idolo de la Juventud’ for his continued commitment to his community.
“I want to thank Miami,” he said, reading off his cell phone. “Without you there’s no Pitbull.”

Premios Juventud gives Univision another shot at redemption
Posted on 09:44 by RAJA BABU
By Fernie Ruano Jr.
I love Latin music.
Forget the problems the Latin music industry has encountered in recent years.
Latin music inspires me; motivates me; calms me; moves me; strengthens me.
It’s why I have over $10,000 in CDs, records and digital downloads. It’s why I fell in love for the first time in the mid-90s to the powerful voice of a Mexican prodigy named Alejandro Fernandez, and why I run to Hector Lavoe, Marc Anthony and Celia Cruz, to name a few.
It’s why I promised myself 15 years ago I would combine my passion for Latin music and writing to interview every Type-A artist imaginable (I’ve come pretty close).
It’s also why I will be watching the 11th annual Premios Juventud, Spanish-language network Univision’saward show honoring the past year’s most popular artists and music as selected by online voting, which is marketed to young Hispanics.
I will also be rooting for Univision to hit a homerun with its production of the show, which airs live from 8-11 p.m. Eastern from the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, FL (An hour-long Red Carpet arrival pre-show will air at 7 pm.).
So, many times before I have sat in my living room or in the audience wondering to myself, “Please, do us proud.”
Well, here’s another chance, Univision.
I’m a bit weary of the chemistry the host pairings, which includes former Dancing with the Stars contestant Christian De La Fuente, telenovela actress Brenda Contreras and Televisa morning show host Galilea Montijo, will add to the broadcast, but I’m keeping an open mind.
I will also pop some popcorn with a smile on my face and hope for the best when Colombian superstar Juanes, rising reggaetón star J Balvin and mainstays Romeo Santosand Prince Royce, among some of the artists scheduled to perform, take the stage.
Enrique Iglesias, who will be touring with Pitbull and J Balvin in the fall and is nominated for six awards, will receive the 2014 Supernova Award – a special award bestowed upon Hispanic personalities with distinguished, successful and fa-reaching careers.
Again, I know where Univision is putting their marketing efforts, but I am hoping for the best.
And a spectacular evening carried by a solid production effort and Latin music.
Premios Juventud awards are given in 27 unique categories within five areas: music, movies, novelas, sports and pop culture. Winners are chosen through votes cast at www.PremiosJuventud.com.

Pretty in pink: J. Lo defines classic ‘chic’ in sheer and peplum
Posted on 12:36 by RAJA BABU

“Are you kidding me?”
That would be the consensus if I propositioned every living and breathing man in America with this question: “Would you rock Jennifer Lopez?”
But I also love, respect, and find it very attracting when a woman can flaunt her sensuality, sexuality and inner confidence without exposing an inch of bare skin.
That’s why I love J. Loa little more today, especially after coming across a picture (see above) of the Bronx-born star stunning in a pale pink Zuhair Murad dress, which features a sheer top and peplum that elegantly hugged her hips, last week at the screening of Loz Jets at the LULAC/Nuvotv Unity Luncheon in New York.
She looked so chic in pink, beautiful too. And in the case her aggressive stare and hand-on-hip add to the classic tone of the image. From the fit of the dress to the fresh make-up to her thumbnail bordering her waistline, Lopez scores with a timeless picture.
A 44-year-old woman is by no means yesterday’s news, but J. Lo is gracefully aging. I find her more alluring than ever and this picture brings out the best in her.
Even her suggestive posture fits the bill and allows you to look past her tousled up hair, which although not very creative blends well with the chic look outlined by her outfit. In fact, I would suggest her clothiers put her in pink dresses more often.
So, while her dating history and choice in men are open to debate, there’s no doubt what image Lopez transmits here: a confident, powerful woman dripping with sex appeal.
And it kind of makes me want to change my mind about ….
