A four-hour, weeknight burger feast in a park (Think: Walking around in circles while chowing down beefy and juicy burger upon beefy and juicy burger loaded with your favorite ingredients before voting on the one you thought was the best, if you’re still breathing) probably isn’t the first thing which comes to mind when you think of Coral Gables, the architecturally-playful hub for the hip, wealthy and desired; And eternally snobbish.
But if you’re really, really into burgers that take more than four minutes to cook and don’t have a reputation of acting like a 10-year-old because of a little mustard on your white dress shirt or plaid dress, you should skip breakfast and lunch tomorrow and cleanse your stomach in anticipation of the fourth-annual Burgerliscious at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park (2800 Ponce De Leon Blvd.), Thursday, November 6, from 6 to 10 p.m.
Shake Shack, Last year’s Burgerliscious’ “King", will be one of 30 burger joints representing with make-shift stands, which will be all smoky and stuff as your 5-pound piece of awesomeness cooks inside a portable grill and you wait at the counter with a cold beer in your hand.
And if you live in or around Coral Gables it’s going to feel like a walk in the ‘hood because event organizers invite just Gables restaurants to take part, therefore Christy’s, Bulla, Bricktop’s, Bread + Butter, Rok BRGR and Pincho Factory will also be on hand to feed you enough chorizo patties, brioche buns and scallop burgers in the name of showcasing the eateries in the area and to tempt you to keep going back for another burger.
And probably take Friday off because if you’re going to eat burgers as if they’re going to be extinct next week, you’re probably going to be drinking a lot of Sam Adams beer and Jack Daniel’s whiskey, responsibly, since you’re sponsor-conscious and want the event to return next year.
Mad World Orquesta and DJ Mayner will be on the premises proving live music and making sure you don’t gain 15 pounds in a four-hour span. General admission is $60 and includes…..what else: six slider burgers and two Sam Adams cold ones. For $125 you can call yourself a VIP and eat 300 sliders, drink 24 Sam Adams beer and have access to a tent. You can even get in starting at 5 p.m., if you’re really lucky; And really good-looking.
