(Editor’s Note: The opinions stated about Miami in this blog are non-negotiable and extremely bias.)
By Fernie Ruano Jr.
If you live in the best city in the world, you too have screamed at the car in front of you on I-95 at 8:15 on a Wednesday morning, sunbathed in your backyard two days before Christmas, purchased peanuts from a street vendor and cheated on your spouse.Alright maybe not, but if you wake up, work, sleep, shower, eat, cheat and are lucky enough to have a roof over your head in South Florida, you probably own a television and therefore have the option of watching a bevy of female ‘TV reporters’ at any point in the day tell you whether you’re going to need an umbrella, where the best Cuban food is (somewhere in Ocean Drive if you watch NBC6), why you should love having Justin Bieber in town, where the party you can’t get into is being held and why they’re so important no TV-executive would be crazy enough to get rid of them.
And I agree. The majority of female weather girls and reporters across the dial are somewhat attractive, have relatively good communication skills and bubbly personalities. And dress to kill.
I mean sometimes its 7:30 a.m. on my watch and I’m wondering if Julie Durda is going to be escorted straight from the WPLG studio to LIV, not back to the newsroom to brush up on the tropical storm forming off the Gulf Coast. But qualifications are very important, when it’s time to capture the most important pair of eyeballs or ears around: yours.
Here now are my Top 5 ‘TV personalities’ in South Florida. And no, I didn’t just focus on the way they dress, sound and look in front of a camera or microphone. Wait, wait: Who’s this? Oh, Giselle Fernandez, Jessica Aguirre, Jill Martin, Courtney Fallon and Karie Ross have given me permission to move on..Denise Isaac (Telemundo 51 meteorologist): Dude, if you don’t speak Spanish I suggest you go sign up at Miami Dade College right now because this Emmy-winning meteorologist brings it every morning, personality included. You kind of forget she roots for the ‘Noles.
Vanessa Borge (CBS4 reporter) : 305 all around, Borge is extremely photogenic, overdue for an endorsement from Colgate and puts together some really cool off-beat stories too. I’ve always wanted to ask her if she has a twin sister, but sadly, Vanessa never returns my phone calls. And Vanessa is petite, which in my book is awesome.Marjorie Acosta (WPLG10 reporter): Like I always wanted to know what Cam Wake eats for breakfast. Alright, that was a pretty nice feature on the Dolphins’ defensive star a few weeks ago, made only even cooler by Acosta’s presentation skills. MJ gets you to pay attention.
Stephanie Serevino (Univision 23 meteorologist): If it’s cloudy and stormy outside, you might have to pay attention to Stephanie; and if it’s sunny, hot and breezy, too. Dios mio!
Natalie Rodriguez (WIOD 610 news anchor): I mean I would be crazy not to include the woman that’s been waking me up since I was a senior in college (sorry, Nat). And her personality is the bomb; just go follow her on Twitter and Facebook, already. Go!
